HIGH PERFORMANCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR GIRLS
Mosman Rowing Club has started this year a new program for girls called “High Performance Development Program”.
The objectives of the Program are:
- to offer schoolgirl rowers with identified potential a rowing program which will bring them to a national rowing standard;
- to offer schoolgirl rowers with identified potential a pathway from school rowing to junior elite club and representative rowing;
- to create a relationship between the Mosman Rowing Club and schoolgirl rowers which will encourage them to continue rowing at the Club after they leave school; and
- to ensure that all students in the program are eligible for all of the benefits offered by the university programs, including full eligibility for UAI assistance and for Australian and overseas sporting scholarships.
The Program started at the end of May, with an induction at Mosman Rowing Club where all the girls interested came with parents to get all the information about this program. In total, 27 girls turned up and showed interest in the program. All girls came from different Schools like Loreto Kirribilli, Pymble Ladies, Queenwood, North Sydney Girls, Tara School, Ascham, Mackellar, etc.
We had 10-12 spots available and at the beginning of June we did some selection testing to decide the final group. We had 17 girls coming to the tests. The tests were the running test (beep test) and a 2k ergo test at 24 rate cap.
After all the testing, we selected 10 girls to start training as a group coached by Gonzalo Briones. The girls in the Program are:
- Kaitlin Honson (Pymble)
- Eliza Flint (Pymble)
- Rachel McEwen (Loreto K)
- Maddison Goldrick (Loreto K)
- Madeleine Cavanagh (Loreto K)
- Susan Overall (Queenwood)
- Emily Brown (Queenwood)
- Marianna Doumanis (Tara)
- Anna Traill (North Sydney)
- Naomi Schuf (MacKellar)
