Mosman Rowing Club has always taken pride in its Juniors program, and we encourage our juniors to train in varied amounts and styles that are best suited to the individual. Mosman juniors train from 2-14 times a week on the water or in the cross training that they are encouraged to do.
We have three main Juniors Programs: Elite Junior Training (training with the elite squad, all year round), Junior Development Squad (training with the club over the majority of the year, particularly in the Summer), and the Winter Development Program (training at the club as a squad over the winter, and training with their respective schools or the other Mosman Junior Squads in the summer).
Elite Junior Athletes
At the 2006 Australian National Championships we had finalists in every Men’s Junior Sculling race, all of whom have come through our Talent Identification Program. The finalists included: Adam de Koning (2x, 4x); Luke Freeman (1x, 2x, 4x) and Caydern Neville (4x). These three junior athletes also competed at the Australian National Selection Regatta.
MRC also has a reputation of having our Juniors racing succesfully in Youth (Under 21) and Senior B (Under 23) categories. And have had athletes in most Youth teams (Youth Cup, Australian Youth Olympic Festival, Interstate Youth Eight).
In June-July 2006 we had a composite Mosman Rowing Club and Sydney Rowing Club crew racing at the Royal Henley Regatta (http://www.hrr.co.uk) against crews from all over the world. They came in at second as one of the two crews to make the final in the first ever all-Australian final.
Junior Development Squad
MRC also caters to the needs of young rowers who do not attend a school that has a suitable rowing program for them. This program is under the direction of Linda Read and Tom Laurich.
More are welcome whether just starting or experienced. If interested please contact Linda Read the junior coaching co-ordinator at Mosman Rowing Club.
