Mosman Rowing Club turns 100 years old in 2011! To mark this enormous milestone in the life of the Club we are hosting a Celebration Dinner on Friday 27th May 2011 at 7:00pm at Dockside, Darling Harbour in Sydney. Guests from all over the world and from all generations will join together on the one night to celebrate a century of Mosman Rowing Club. Hosted by current Mosman Master Tim Sheridan, this sumptuous black-tie event will include a three course meal, all drinks, and fine company with entertainment provided by a live band. (Note: The Dinner is now SOLD OUT and no further tickets available).
A magnificent hard-cover book has also been produced to document our Club's long and distinguished history. Red and White Hoops is the record of the first 100 years of Mosman Rowing Club. Compiled from newspaper cuttings, scrapbooks and records accumulated by members and friends, past and present, along with personal recollections, it forms a comprehensive record of what it takes to make a world-renowned rowing club. Comprising 352 pages and bound in a beautiful full-colour hard case with dust jacket, the volume contains almost 1000 images. Beginning with the history of the club, the chapters define the individual components that make up a great rowing club.
There is a special section on Women rowers and then the book moves to elite Olympians, Schools, Masters, Corporate, Adaptive and Recreational rowing. Scattered through these pages are profiles, personal accounts and quotes. And to round out the history of MRC, there is a personal recollection by Bruce Evans included in full. Written by members, the story of Mosman Rowing Club is a personal, funny and moving tribute to one of Australia’s great sporting icons.
Limited numbers of this book are available, including a small number that have been personally signed by John Coates AC, President of The Australian Olympic Commitee and Life Member of Rowing Australia, and by all Mosman Rowing Club Olympians.
Sample pages from the book may be viewed in our Centenary Photo Gallery.
The book is available for purchase from our Online Shop.
