Youth Cup Selection Regatta

YOUTH CUP SELECTION (9, 10 August 2008)

Mosman Junior girls raced last weekend in Penrith (SIRC) at the NSW Youth Cup selection trials.

On Saturday, all of them (11 girls) rowed in singles  over 1900mts. in time trial system, starting each single every 15 seconds.

The best result was for Oli Heath who was the 3rd lightweight and Eliza Flint, finishing 5th in the heavyweight category.

Both of them were the only Mosman girls invited to the final race, over 2000mts and in 8 lanes. In that race, Oli finished 4th (2nd lightweight) and Eliza finished 8th.

As a result of that last race, Olivia Heath has been selected for the NSW Youth Cup team to row in the LW2x, W4x and W8+. Adam de Koning was selected for the men’s squad, finishing the trials as the quickest ligthweight, and 3rd quickest heavyweight.

The results in the time trial for the rest of the girls were:

1x Heavy Women                                                     1x Lightweight Women

5th.- Eliza Flint 8.06.00 3rd .                                       - Olivia Heath 8.08.92

7th.- Naomi Schuf 8.15.19 7th.                                  - Marianna Doumanis 8.36.11

11th.- Rachel McEwen 8.28.69 8th.                          - Anna Traill 8.41.82

12th.- Susan Overall 8.29.15

13th.- Kaitlin Honson 8.36.33

14th.- Emily Brown 8.36.61

16th.- Maddison Goldrick 8.39.93

17th.- Maddie Cavanagh 8.43.80

On Sunday, four of the girls tried in the sweep trials, rowing in 2 pairs, again 1900mts. in time trial system.

Six women pairs did the race, and our girls finished in 4th position (Eliza-Kaitlin) and in 5th position (Rachel-Susan), and non of them were invited for the final race to decide the top 2 pairs.

In general, it has been a very good experience for the girls and that was the main reason to bring them there. They are all 15 and 16 years old (except Kaitlin, 17) and the Youth Cup is for under 21 girls, so, they were the youngest of the participants.

Well done girls and keep going hard !!!
