Colonial First Eight win Les Taylor Challenge Cup for 2008

On a stunning day, on a flat stretch of water, a gun team representing Colonial First State captured the Commonwealth Bank Les Taylor Challenge Cup.

An action packed re-race, saw the Colonial First Eight set a new course record as they powered clear of another potential collision with the second place getters from Retail Banking Services(RBS 2) to win by a margin of five seconds. Last years champions from CommSec rowed very well to gain third place, in what was a very close and fast race.

In the first attempt at racing the Final, the leaders Colonial First Eight and RBS had a race-ending high speed collision, which luckily caused littte damage to people or boats. An umpires decision to rerow the final due to unsafe and unfair conditions caused a stir, which kept tongues wagging well into the night.

In the Art Brown Final, for places fourth to sixth, Risk Management made up for their disappointment of missing the top final by beating the two teams from Enterprise IT, one of which was a team made of eight novice rowers. To end up in 6th place overall was a fantastic effort for them.

Legal Services won the Commonwealth Final to claim 7th place overall, Institutional Banking and Markets the Presidents final for 10th, Private Bank the Captains final for 13th and PBS Payments won the Coaches final to finish up in 16.

Allowing for the various handicaps applied by the umpires, the Private Bank team narrowly held off the Institutional Banking and Markets team to win the Adjusted Time Trophy.

All the teams will now be looking forward to yet another fantastic day for both the Mosman Rowing Club and the Commonwealth Bank at next years regatta.
