Mosman Rowing Club was well represented by both elite and our very own junior competitors.
It was fabulous to see the up and coming rowers preparing for their events side by side with the clubs older and very experienced rowers.
The Championships stretched over Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th February and it’s unimaginable how many blisters, sweat and tears went into the action packed weekend of rowing.
Our juniors, coached by Tony and Linda competed in the U16 men and women’s single sculls, U16, U17 & U19 Women’s doubles, U19 Men’s Doubles, U16 and U19 women’s quad.
Naomi Schuf and Blake Carroll rowed very strongly to make the finals of the singles. Naomi Schuf/Kate Vanderheide, Charmaine Bermingham/Mikaela Brown (U16) & Alice Connaghan/Anna Traill U17 & Martina Thiermann/Alice Connaghan (U19) all made the doubles finals. Naomi & Kate pushed through in the last 250m to take 2nd place pushing Charmaine and Mikaela back to 4th in an exciting finish. Anna and Alice rowed a powerful 2000m final to finish fifth in the U17’s. Martina and Alice rowed the race of their life to make the start of their final in the 2000m U19 2x exhibiting wonderful sportsmanship in the circumstances.
Naomi, Charmaine, Mikaela and Kate showed their form and experience after taking the lead early in the 1000m U16 4x and holding comfortably for a convincing win. Great win girls!!
Martina, Alice, Lucy & Jess ended a busy day of competition and in the U19 4x racing together for the first time in the U19 4x came in fourth place.
