Dear all,
Daylight Saving commences this Sunday 28th at 2.00 am, so for most of us, Monday morning training will start in darkness.
The Board has directed me to advise that no rowing will take place from the Mosman shed without correct lighting.
This means:
- A white light on the bow visible at least 270 degrees
- A white light on the stern – remember the rowers body usually obscures the bow light when the rowing craft is viewed from astern.
- All of us who coach here have almost run down our own rowers in the dark when approaching them from astern, and given the noise of the outboard motors, rowers yelling out to warn oncoming boats is usually useless
- No red lights at all are to be used.- as John Dollisson correctly points out, water craft use these to navigate by, and often head straight for them.
- I know many people have bought LED bike lights with clear plastic lenses, thinking they will show white, but in many cases, the LED’s show red when lit, even though the lens is clear.
- It pays to check the packaging to make sure the lights are for the front of the bike (which must be white), as invariably lights packaged for the rear of the bike show red when lit
- White T shirts are a great help- certainly better than dark tops
- I have 5 new C-strobe lights available for purchase for $50.00 each. These come recommended by the NSWRA .
Please get onto this soon, as we don’t to stop people from training next Monday.
Rgds,
Nick Garratt
Head Coach
