With great weather and 150 attendees at the function, the BBQ kicked off at 10am followed by cakes, muffins and unique red and white cup cakes celebrating both MRC and Christmas.
After great social interaction between the rowers, family and social members the boat naming began at 11am.
Mosman Club Captain John Dollisson, after thanking the organisers of the BBQ, Anne Taylor, Glenda Kirkby and Linda Read, introduced Head Coach Nick Garratt who presented the Elite Mosman Rowing Team.
The Captain then proceeded with the naming of six new or near new boats purchased during the year from rowing member donations from the Taylor’s, Liley’s, Mark Williams, Kirkby’s and Dollisson’s. They were named as follows;
- Wintech 2-x Tom Laurich
- Wintech 2x Peter Hardcastle
- Empacher 2- Nick Garratt
- Sykes 2x- Art Brown
- Ausrotec 1x Stephen Brown
- Ausrotec 1x Anne Taylor
The naming rights for three new singles were then successfully auctioned off by Peter Chapman raising $2,650. New Boat names and successful bidders in brackets are “Stephen Evans†(WM 1x),â€Virginia Lee†(new Wintech 1x) (syndicate of Anne and Jim Taylor, Tim Sheridan, John Myburgh, Marg Small, Glenda Kirkby, Peter Mayoh and Steve Williams), “Angus Williams†(new Wintech 1x) (Mark Williams and Mark Campbell).
The Captain then talked about the new boatshed building program due to start in March 2007 with scheduled completion in mid 2008 and the Club’s new trailer and rowing merchandise.
Club Vice President Mark Williams wished all members best wishes for the festive season.
A special thankyou to Moina Robertson (Laura’s mum) and Tony Blay for the excellent Christmas cake and beach seat that were raffled.
